Raritan Headwaters Stream Clean-up and Trout Fest, Saturday, April 20th

Clean-up 8:30 am-Noon

We will meet at the parking lot next to Gronsky’s Milk House,125 W Main St, High Bridge at 8:30 am to assess the situation. Coffee and donuts will be served. If the South Branch is low enough we can collect any trash in the river. If it’s too high to wade we will just clean up along the banks in High Bridge. Trout Fest 2024 Noon-4 pm

Trout Fest 2024, sponsored by South Branch Outfitters, will be the 2nd annual community celebration of spring and everything fishing in Califon, NJ. Held at the Califon Island Park, there will be a great afternoon full of casting competitions, children's events, product demonstrations, handmade vendors, and good music, beer, and food for everyone to enjoy. Hacklebarney TU Chapter will have a table there.

Catskills Trip Sweepstakes

The 34th Annual Conservation Fundraising Banquet on Sunday was a big success. Everyone had a good time. Lot's of great prizes were won. Ted Smith won the Grand Raffle 1st Prize and has generously donated it back to our chapter to raise more money. So now you have another chance to win it.

The Catskills Trip includes 3 nights stay (weekdays only) at the "Kingfisher Catskills" Cahill House in Livingston Manor. The house has three bedrooms, four beds, kitchen, dining, and living room. It's right across the street from the famous Willowemoc Creek. You can dine out at nearby restaurants or prepare you own meals in the fully appointed kitchen. New York State guide, Bruce Pollock will take you one day to some of his favorite fishing spots and share his local knowledge. Many of our chapter members have stayed there, fished with Bruce, and had a great experience.

March 14th Chapter Meeting with Joe Ackourey

A Life-Long Resident Of Northeastern PA, Joe Guides Primarily On The Lackawanna River, Bowman Creek And Susquehanna River, But Also Several Mountain Streams That Are Home To Native Brook Trout. Joe Began Fly Fishing/Tying At Age Six, Taught By His Father, Whom Joe Describes As “A True Master On The Vise And On The Water”. When His Parents Opened A Fly Shop In 1976, Joe Discovered A Passion For Teaching. He Developed A Comprehensive Fly Tying Course, And Has Since Instructed Countless Students In Tying Their First Wooly Worm. Throughout His Career, Joe Has Been A Contributing Author For Mid-Atlantic Fly Fishing Guide, A Featured Fly Tier At Catskill Fly Fishing Center And Museum, And A Frequent Guest On Pennsylvania Outdoor Life, And Similarly Themed Television Shows. Joe Does Presentations For Organizations Such As Boy Scouts Of America, Local Schools And Colleges, And Several Chapters Of Trout Unlimited. Joe Has Been On The Board Of The Stan Cooper Sr. Chapter Of Trout Unlimited Since 1996, And Chairs Their Youth Fly Fishing Camp And Stream Improvement Projects, And Has Been Recognized For His Commitment To Environmental Stewardship. Joe Finds Motivation In Helping Others, Both Beginner And Seasoned, “Open New Doors” Toward Meeting Their Fly Fishing Goals. He Is Happiest At The Vise Or On The Stream, Sharing His Knowledge And Appreciation For The Art Of Fly Fishing.
