Point Mountain Trip-June 15th

Our next HBTU outing will be to the Point Mountain section of the Musconetcong River near Hackettstown on Saturday, June 15, 2019. We will meet at 8 a.m. in the parking area on Point Mountain Road. Heading south on State Road 57 from Hackettstown, make a left on Point Mountain Road and the parking area will be on the left shortly after you cross over the river. Heading north on State Road 57 from Washington Borough and Township, make a right on Point Mountain Road, cross over the river and the lot will be on the left. There is also some parking spots on Point Mountain Road near the lot. Please make an effort to car pool because there are a limited number of spaces.

This area of the river was substantially enhanced by an improvement project a few years ago and is ideal habitat for trout. It is heavily stocked and the water flow has been good. A variety of flies should be productive, including prince nymphs, hare’s ears, pheasant tails, caddis larva, La Fontaines, wooly buggers, BWO’s and elk hair caddis. Sulphurs will likely be present in the afternoon.

We will fish till approximately noon and some will likely catch a bite and a beer afterward.
